Frequently asked questions

What is a standard translation page?

A standard written translated page is a unit, equal to 1800 or 1500 characters (including spaces), as the number of characters varies, depending on the country, agency and translator. In some countries the text to be translated is calculated, based on the number of words or lines (e.g. in Germany). The usual practice in Bulgaria is to calculate the translated pages based on 1800 characters per page of translation (target language). The calculation method that I use is based on a standard translation page of 1500 of the source text, since makes it possible for the client to know in advance the precise price of the translation. If the number of standard translated pages of the original document cannot be calculated (scanned documents in a jpg file format etc.), I indicate an estimation of the number of translated pages, but the ultimate calculation is made when the translation is ready. I find this approach much more efficient and convenient for the client, since it makes it possible to determine the precise cost in advance – something which is of particular significance for large-volume translations, where the price is a critical factor.

In case of larger translation projects, including multiple-file projects with a certain percentage of repetitions; I use innovative specialized software, which calculates the repetitions of whole sentences or segments, thus reducing the volume of work and therefore – the deadlines and total price. The software is capable of producing a final report of such calculations.

I need the translation of half a page. Do you accept such minor assignments?

Yes, but I charge for the translation of 1 page, as a minimum.

What is the best method for sending you the material for translation?

If possible – in electronic form (word, excel, PowerPoint etc. or PDF or jpg or another file format of the document, scanned in high resolution). In case of a scanned document, it is advisable to send me the version of the document in word-file format, if available, on which the respective document is based (contracts, agreements etc.)

Official translation

This is a translation, made by a sworn translator, registered, after submitting all necessary documents, evidencing his or her education and experience, with the “Legalizations and Certifications” Sector of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria. The translation is signed by the sworn translator and printed on a stamped letterhead of the licensed agency, which has signed an agreement with the MFA to make official translations.

Certified translation

Translations may be certified by the “Legalizations and Certifications” Department of the MFA only of originals or notarized copies of an official document, with all necessary signatures, seals and certifications.

Sworn (authorized) translator

The sworn translator in Bulgaria is a person, authorized by the MFA to make official translations.

How can I verify your professional experience?

Upon request, I can send you references, given by my clients in various lines of business.

What time does a translation take?

This depends on the specificities of the respective text, and the other current assignments of the translator, as well as on the urgency of the assignment of the respective client. However, being a free-lance translator, I am able to ensure the meeting of satisfying deadlines.

How can I request a quotation?

By sending, if possible, the entire text for translation or at least a part thereof. If the documents need certification/legalization it is advisable to send the scanned document first, indicating where you will need to submit it.

Payment method

By bank transfer or PayPal technicaltranslationsbulgarian@gmail.com

The invoice is issued based on the quotation. The amount due can be paid by a bank transfer or cash. In case of an international invoice, it is issued without charging VAT, as an intra-community transaction, and then a reverse charge regime is applied in Italy.

In case of large-volume assignments by new clients, I may request for a 50% down payment on the total price of the project.

Do you use computer-assisted translation software (CAT Tools)?

Yes, mainly for large projects, in order to ensure terminological consistency of the translated files, reduction of the price, by avoiding the payment for repeating sentences and segments and in order to ensure shorter project completion periods, in case of a large percentage of repetitions.
I use Trados (SDL Studio 2011) and Transit NXT.

Do you make urgent and express translations?

Considering the fact that I am a full-time translator, I am capable of organizing the translation of your texts in the shortest possible time, „immediately“, and to submit the completed translation ASAP, charging the pre-negotiated additional fee for the urgency of the translation.
